Louise Walker

2021

Louise Walker was an accomplished high jumper who competed for the University of Toronto’s Varsity Blues in Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field from 1970 – 1977. Walker was the National High Jump Champion in 1973 and 1975 and she also set an intercollegiate record of 1.87m (6’1.6) in 1975 where she was ranked 5th in the World. She represented Canada at four major International Games: the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, the 1974 Commonwealth Games where she won a Silver medal, and the 1975 Pan-American Games where she also won a Silver medal. In 1975, Walker had won a Gold medal at the Pre-Olympic meet.

While Louise Walker was a student at U of T, she was very active in intramural athletics, served as the President of the Medicine Women’s Athletic Association, and was a member of the Women’s Athletic Association Directorate. She went on to pursue her Bachelor’s of Science and Doctor of Medicine and accomplished many things with those degrees. Walker was the former Chair of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), the former Co-Director of the Ottawa Sport Medicine Centre and an Assistant professor at the University of Ottawa. She was also the past President of the Canadian Academy of Sport Exercise Medicine. Walker also contributed to Team Canada as being the Team Physician for the Canadian Women’s Hockey team at Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
