Dave Bailey

Dave Bailey was the first Canadian under 4:00 for the mile (3:59.1, 1966, San Diego) followed by the first Canadian in Canada (3:57.7, 1967, Toronto). Bronze for 1500m at Pan Ams (1967, Winnipeg) and silver at World University Games (FISU 1967, Tokyo). Ran 4:07.5 for mile as a 17-year-old (1962, Toronto) – World best at the time for age. Two-time Canadian Universities Track and Field Athlete of Year (1965, 1967). Two-time inductee into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame (individual 1998, team2003). Member of 9 national / international track & field teams including Olympics (1965– 1968). Ran some great relays with East York Track Club teammates Bruce Kidd and Bill Crothers.
