    Important Technical Rules

For the complete Athletics Ontario Procedures and Technical Rules for Provincial Championships, please click HERE.

Rule 143 - Clothing, Shoes, and Athlete Bibs

    1. Athletes competing in any AO provincial championships may wear clothing from AO/AC member clubs in good standing. Athletes not representing an AO/AC club must wear plain tops or singlets. Company logos are permitted on these garments following WA regulations.

    2. At all AO Championships, athletes will receive a bib which shall be worn on the front in track events and on the front or back in field events.

    3. Hip numbers, if provided, must be worn as directed. Where a Photo Finish System is in operation, officials may ask athletes to wear hip number(s) on the side of their shorts or lower body, as well as on their left chest.

    Check-in

    • Athletes will check in on the north end of the facility under the large white tent behind the 100m start area. Officials will usher atheltes to the start lines.

    • No parents allowed on the track at any time.

    Track

    • Top 8 athletes in the 80m will qualify for the final

    • Only standing starts or 4-point starts allowed for sprint events.

    • In sprint events, atheltes are to stay in their lanes. Athletes who run out of their lanes and result in running a shorter distance may not be eligible for awards.

    Field

    • In the U8 shot put or sometimes called “ball throw” the athletes must use the pushing motion when putting the implement. Athletes cannot throw the ball. Athletes will be using a light, women’s softball in this age group, and many have the urge to throw rather than using a pushing motion. The athlete will be given additional chances to use correct form but if it is not corrected the officials will call the throw as a fault.
