Margaret MacGowan Hendershot

Marg was an Olympic athlete competing at the 1976 Games, running on Canada’s 4×400m relay, 4×100m relay & individual 400m. She made the semi-finals in the 400m and placed 8th in the 4×400 (CR) and 2x Bronze Medalist at the 1974/1978 Commonwealth Games on the women’s 4×400m relay teams & won the Gold medal at the 1975 Pan Am Games in a record time of 3:30.36. She also ran 54.2 to break the Junior Canadian Record in 1973.
1973-1977 – competed for Brock University for 4 years winning many university races in 50 100 200 & 400 – named female athlete of the year at Brock University in 1973.
Competed 1975 at WSG in Rome – Competed at WSG 1977 in Sofia Bulgaria where she came 6th in the 400.
1974 – named to first major team Commonwealth Games New Zealand where the 4x400m team captured bronze.
Canadian Indoor Champion in the 400m
1975 – Met Olympic qualifying standard and won Canadian 400m title in 52.8
1975 named to Pan American Games Team in Mexico City for 200, 400, & 4 x 400m relay where she was 6th in 400 with a time of 53.11 and gold in relay (CR).
1976 – Olympic Trials 1st in the 400, named to Olympic team in 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m (4x400m Canadian record in the second round with a time of 3:28.8)
1978 – First at Commonwealth Games Trials in the 400m –named to Commonwealth Games in 200m, 400m & 4x400m (Bronze medal)
1991 Canadian Masters Championships gold medalist in the 100m 200m 400m & World Masters Turku Finland Gold and Canadian record in the 400m, Canadian Record and Bronze in the 200m, and Canadian Record and Bronze in the 100m.
