May 17 - Athletics Canada names six for Panamerican Combined Events Cup in nation's capital
Jamie Adjetey-Nelson of Windsor, Ont., headlines Canada's entry at the 2012 Panamerican Combined Events Cup taking place in Ottawa, Ont., May 26 and 27. Adjetey-Nelson, who enters with a personal best of 8239 points, sits third on the Canadian all-time list behind Michael Smith and David Steen. Jamie has represented Canada on numerous occasions, notably at the 2011 World Championships and at the 2010 Commonwealth Games where he won gold. READ MORE

May 14 - Jibril, Sexton and Aulagnon claim Athletics Ontario 10,000m Championship gold
The Junior & Senior Men and Senior Women 10,000m Track Championships took place on Saturday May 12 at TD-Waterhouse Stadiim in London, Ontario. The event was hosted by London Runner Distance Club and was part of the RCLDS (Runners Choice London Distance Series) Meet #1. READ MORE

May 11 - Ontario 10,000m Championships take place this Saturday in London
The London 10,000m is set to kick off the 8th annual Runners' Choice London Distance Series, hosted by the London Runner Distance Club. Once again, this meet will host the Ontario 10,000m Championships, as well as 800m and Mile races. In the Junior age group, Newmarket Husky Dylan Brown will look to become the 2nd Ontario athlete under the World Junior 10,000m standard of 31:30, in hopes of making the Canadian team. Heading the Womens Championship entries is 2011 Canadian 5,000m Champion Leslie Sexton (London Runner), while Athletics Toronto teammates Sami Jibril and Kyle Dekker are the top seeds on the Mens side. May 11 - Diamond League series begins today on CBC featuring Felicien, George, Holder and Lopes-Schliep
Four of Canada's top five internationally decorated women's sprint hurdlers will be in action today at the 2012 Diamond League series kick off in Doha, Qatar. Perdita Felicien of Pickering, Ont., Phylicia George of Markham, Ont., Nikkita Holder of Pickering, Ont., and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Whitby, Ont., will all be in the same race in what is sure to be a preview of the upcoming Track and Field Trials. Of course the Trials later this summer will determine which three of Canada's fab five hurdlers earn the right to don the maple leaf at the Olympic Games. READ MORE |

May 8 - Countdown to 2012 Calgary Trials officially on
The countdown has begun as Canada's best track and field athletes prepare for the 2012 Canadian Track and Field Trials, June 27-30, 2012 at Foothills Athletic Park. The Trials serve as the selection meet for athletes hoping to qualify to the 2012 Olympic or Paralympic Games. The event will showcase Canada's elite who have podium aspirations at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. On Wednesday May 16 Calgary based athletes Sam Effah (100m*) and Jessica Zelinka (Heptathlon**) will provide a glimpse into their 2012 preparations and what it takes to be a future Olympian. May 8 - DAVE WATSON, 1932-2012
Suddenly at his home on Sunday, May 6, 2012 in his 80th year David passed away. David leaves behind his wife Betty and two daughters. David was a long time member of Athletics Ontario (ex OTFA); he was kind, generous and loving and he will be deeply missed by many. Memorial service at Ross Funeral Chapel in Port Hope, Ontario on Wednesday May 16. READ MORE

May 3 - Team Maccabi - We're looking for athletes
The Maccabiah Games, a prominent international sports competition held every four years in Israel, is one of the top three gatherings of athletes in the world. Over 8,000 athletes proudly represent over 65 countries and compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. We are looking for your help to recruit the very best athletes to compete for Team Canada in the 19th Maccabiah Games being held in Israel in July 2013. May 2 - Athletics Canada confirms full funding for NACAC U-23 Championships team
Athletics Canada is pleased to announce today that the team representing Canada at the 2012 NACAC under 23 Athletics Championships will be fully funded, up to 43 individuals. "The transition from junior to senior athlete is a difficult one, with this initiative we hope to remove financial barriers for athletes making this jump, said Rob Guy, Chief Executive Officer, Athletics Canada. May 2 - Lopes-Schliep and Mason hit Olympic standards in Guadeloupe
After taking a year off to give birth and in her first outdoor race since the Diamond League Final in September 2010, Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Markham, Ont., finished third in the 100-metre hurdles at the Meeting International de Guadeloupe in an Olympic A standard time of 12.95 seconds. April 30 - Athletics Canada announces 2012 Hall of Fame Inductees; Crooks, Ottey, LeBlanc, Steen, Surin get call
Athletics Canada is pleased to announce today the five athletes, coach, builder and three in memoriam inductees who will be enriched as part of the class of 2012. Charmaine Crooks of Vancouver, B.C., Milton "Milt" Ottey of Toronto, Ont., Guillaume LeBlanc of Sept-Iles, Que., Dave Steen of New Westminster, B.C., and Bruny Surin of Montreal, Que., will be inducted in the athlete category. Lyle Sanderson of Regina, Sask., will join the hall in the coach category while Bob Adams of Regina, Sask., enters as a builder. Completing the class of 2012 are in memoriam inductees Myrtle Cook of Toronto, Ont., Fred Foot from Toronto, Ont., and Harry Jerome of Prince Albert, Sask. READ MORE

April 26 - Athletics Canada nominates three marathoners to London 2012 Olympic Games
For the first time since 1996 Canada is sending three male marathoners to the Olympic Games. Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton, Ont., Eric Gillis of Antigonish, N.S., and Dylan Wykes of Kingston, Ont., all dipped below Athletics Canada's Olympic marathon standard of 2:11:29 before the qualifying deadline of April 22. April 18 - Qualification procedures for 2012 National Junior and Senior Championships clarified
Members should note that the procedures for entry into the National Junior Championships by athletes who have not met the entry standard as indicated in the meet Technical Package, will be in line with the procedures that have been in effect for the National Senior Championships for the past couple years. That means that for most events the "Top 3" option from both branch qualifiers and provincial high school championships is no longer available. READ MORE
