Volunteer Screening Program

The AO Volunteer Screening Program involves the Ten Safe Steps as outlined by Volunteer Canada. This initiative is meant to encourage people to become involved with our Association and help our clubs and other volunteers make our sport safer and more accessible. Volunteer Screening is an attempt to provide a safer environment for our young athletes, and to help them participate in our sport free of harassment.

We encourage our clubs to become involved with screening at the club level, to protect vulnerable athletes and the clubs and volunteers themselves. Clubs can find valuable resources in our Screening Policy and Resource Handbook to the left.

If you would like to know more about our Screening Program, please download the linked information. The AO Screening Policy and Resource Handbook can be downloaded in two parts: the first part is the Policy Handbook and provides guidance, direction and sample forms for clubs and volunteers; the second part provides further resources and background information on the whole screening process, and contains links to other resources.

Please note that the Toronto Police Service has amended the payment procedure with respect to the processing of requests under the Police Reference Check Program. Effective October 1, 2004, personal cheques will no longer be accepted as a valid method of payment for background screening checks. As of this date, a money order, bank draft, or company cheque must accompany all consent forms forwarded to the Toronto Police Service Police Reference Check Program.
