2010/02/08 Project Funding: We need your ideas
February 08, 2010

The Ministry of Health Promotion, our main funding partner, has a program called Sport Priority Funding. Through this program Athletics Ontario can apply for funding in three areas: Excellence, Capacity and Participation.

Excellence means high performance athletics, so – by way of example - projects might include an indoor dual meet for one our age classes, testing of our identified or Quest for Gold athletes, or warm weather training camps.

Capacity means our ability, as an Association, to manage growth. Projects might include the recruitment and training of more coaches and officials, the provision of workshops for our clubs to provide them with better tools to manage their own programs, or the development of a strategy to market our Association and form strategic partnerships with the corporate world.

Participation, of course, means getting more people active. The purpose of this initiative is to reduce the general drain on Ontario’s health care system, and it might involve projects which are developmental in nature.

Applications are due soon, and we would like to hear your ideas about programs and projects which should be funded.

  • Funding is for new initiatives and does not cover ongoing expenses.
  • We expect to hear about the success of our applications in the summer, so projects should begin no earlier than July.
  • We can apply for funding in one, two or all three program areas, but we can only apply for one project in each of the three areas.
  • Proposals should be on a province wide, association basis. Proposals which benefit a single club will not be considered.
  • The total amount of funding which Athletics Ontario could access is $50,000, so plan your budget accordingly.

If you have ideas for projects or proposals which you think would fit the above criteria and which you think could be successful, please let us know at: ontrack@eol.ca

We look forward to receiving your input.
